Most community organisations know about the big general funders: Lottery, the community trusts, the gaming trusts. Fewer know that alongside those sit funders whose stated priority is ethnic, migrant and Pacific communities specifically. Some exist for little else.
That means a Chinese seniors' association, a Filipino cultural trust or a Pacific language nest is often eligible twice over, from the mainstream funders and from the culturally-specific ones. In practice most groups apply to neither, or to one and not the other.
The money is genuinely there. What's usually missing is the time, and someone who knows how each funder likes to be asked.
